Apply to Become an Artist with Singers at Hearts Records Today!

REGISTRATION FOR NEW ARTISTS IS CLOSED

Our label's capacity for 5 artists to represent has been filled. However you can read on till bottom of page to find out how you can still benefit from our label expertise.

Specifics on Strategies & How We Work

*We first learn what your overall goals are : Do you wish to release several albums in career and tour? or do you seek to make a demo to shop to bigger labels in view of a recording contract? do you wish to make an indie album that would be marketed on the internet?...whatever your goals, our first initial contact help us identify what you expect from us and the way we should work with you to make that happen.

*We build your website: We'll ask to provide us some basic information -photos, bio, songs samples etc- and we'll build your website and make it as professional as possible. A website is extremely important for the artist trying to present a serious face to potential bookers or producers who might want to work with them, as well as building relationship with the fans. One thing we'll do that's different than others is keep our sites as updated as possible and take advantage of the lattest technologies to keep the fans informed (audio and video blogging, news, interactivity etc).

*We define together a clear format for you: The reason most indie artists fail to make an impact is because a lot of the times the material just isn't good enough, but more importantly because the material fails to make a clear statement as to who the artists are. Truth is radios work by format, even online. When you join our label one of the first thing we'll do is define with you what type of format(s) or artists you will most sound like. The idea isn't to make you lose your individuality, but to tailor your material towards specific markets and establish the best strategy to break them.

*We use our internet connections to find you songs: We started our career as songwriters ourselves, therefore we established a few contacts with peers online, and we also identified places to seek great material online. There are currently thousands of amateur songwriters who are looking for artists to sing their songs, meanwhile singers cannot find original material anywhere! it's a big contradiction. We've created the bridge so all those unheard gems will find a voice. Once we presented you a selection of songs, you pick the ones you like and we then contact the respective songwriters to ask for their authorisation to use their material.
Note: Our record label strongly believes that there cannot be a career for an artist, online or off, without the absolute strongest material possible. Our strategy for developing your career will therefore rely heavily on picking the songs of that are right for you to build your catalog (for a demo 3-5 songs, and 10-20 if the goal is making an album). In the later case we'll put an emphasis on identifying those 1,2 or 3 songs in the mix that would be possible first single and radio hits.

*We help you find gigs to perform live: After building your catalog, we determine a list of venues in your area where you'll be able to perform live to test out your material, build an audience and get yourself heard. That's the best way to network with fellow musicians, promoters and fans..Those gigs might be open mics, coffee houses, clubs, or festivals. If there's a need to get you a backup band we'll help recruit a band, as well put together a press kit with bio sheet and home CD demo of a couple of songs from your original catalog to send to the bookers.

*We support you through the recording process: Whether it's a demo you're making to seek a record contract with a bigger label, or you plan to make an album independantly that we'll help to promote and sell through our site and other means, we'll guide you and offer you our advice. Seek the best and most affordable producers, musicians, studios. Find the right photographers and artwork for your photoshoots and albums. Decide on a great tracklisting.

*We help to promote you online and off: Making an album is only half of the deal! The second part is getting the CDs in the hands of consumers. Sell those units. We help to establish a specific strategy to promote you, by picking the right single, writing press releases and sending them out to the press, submitting your cds for online reviews, getting you airplay on online radios, obtaining you features and interviews spots on indie artists sites and mp3 hosts if possible, and selling your CD on our own site.

*We guide you in licensing your music: the money is in licensing music for games, movies, soundtraks and advertisement. We don't have the means to do it for you, but whenever we hear a specific song from your catalog that may fit such a criteria we'll make the suggestion to you.

*We guide you for the creation of an artistic image: Image is extremely important for the artist trying to make it these days, and yet most neglect that aspect the most. And by image we're not refering to looking airbrushed and plastic, but the 'artistic presentation' of everything that's related to the artist...for instance if a music video becomes plan we'll help you find an intentive director that creates the best image for you that makes a statement. And if you tour, we'll give you tips to put together that spectacular show that will leave the audiences breatless.

*We offer you a flexible contract: If you decide to become an artist with Singers At Heart records, you agree to sign a 3 year contract that is "non-exclusive", meaning you have the freedom to sign with other record labels, or management companies at any time, and you may work independantly from us. We chosed 3 years because we believe it's the reasonable amount of time required to develop an artist and make it worth the time and effort. After that time it's entirely up to you to renew with us if you're satisfied with our services.

*We split profits in a fair way: If you sign with Singers at Hearts Records you agree to split your profits from music related ventures 75/25 with us, meaning 25% of your profited earnings will be paid to our label for its services. If during the term of your contract you make no money related to music you do not have to pay us anything for our services.  (Note that if you chose us as official distributors of your music later on, meaning we'll be the ones handling the direct sales your CDs, then revenus will be shared equally 50/50)

*We stick with you for the long haul: Our main area of focus for now is artist developement, and as such we focus on building our singers' career from the ground up, which is something record companies no longer do. The reason for it is that it takes a lot of time, effort, and investment and at the end there are no guarantees. The chances of ever making any money at all is slim, and rarely can it pay back the amount of work invested. But we're driven by enough passion and enthusiasm to give it a go! We hope you want to take a chance like us.

What We Do Not Do !

*We don't offer any guarantees: We cannot promise to make you a star with a hit album, mad radio play and lots of "bling-bling" :) We hope you know that!! We're just starting this label out of nothing, just like you are, and for now it's nothing more than an online venture. Lots of fun and creative play. We're looking for fellow artists who want to do "something" with their talent and who have a sense of adventurism about them.

*We don't promise a contract with a major label: Signing recording contracts with majors are very very rare, even more so these days with the state of music sales and online piracy. Plus majors are not interested in artists that do not come with an established fanbase. You may have a chance with a smaller indie label down the road, who knows, but we prefer pressing along with our plans without counting on any of that, though if it happens for you we'll be glad for you.

*We don't do all the work for you
: This is a big one y'all! we're not working for you but with you. We hope you'll be as involved in every step as we are in trying to make things happen for you.

*We don't provide funds for your studio or recording: We cannot afford it! We have no money whatesoever unfortunately. The only thing we can do is look for solutions with you to get your music recorded, that's all.

*We don't pretend to be something we're not: Our label is an online venture that has never been tried yet, and we'll learn as we go. If we don't make you any money, we hope to at least get you some exposure. The music business can be a tough and discouraging road, and it's always nice to have someone on your side who believes in you. That's what we want to do.

How to Know You Qualify as a Potential Artist on Our Label?

*1) You're passionate: That's the most important quality we're looking for. Without passion for this, there's just no way to make it past a month or two in the business. There are lots of ups and down, doubts, and hurdles. - But if you can't think of anything that you want more than doing this, then you're at right place.

*2) You love people: Connecting with an audience on a personal level is so primordial to make it in music at this point! The days of mass, impersonal marketing are coming to an end, as people get bombarded with free music and multimedia content daily, which makes all of it obsolete...So if as an artist you're not willing to tell a story, build and maintain relationships with fans you may be better with the old models of marketing music. - But if you believe artists should invite fans into their world, and give them an experience they'll come back to for more, then you're at the right place.

*3) You're patient: Patience is such a virtue in life as it is in this business...If you are the kind of person who lives just for the instant gratification of a few fans telling you they love your voice, or applauding you, the demands of planning a career for the long haul might prove hard because the applause will not always be there to give you faith.  - But if you can always keep your focus on the bigger picture and your eye towards the goal, then again you're at the right place.

*4) You're easy to work with: Cause really, who wants to work with a diva when it comes down to it? Everyone prefers to work with people who are decent, kind and professional. Respecting one's committments, being on time, acknowledge a songwriter who sends you a song, write a thank you to people who feature your music etc..all these things will make the professionals who work with you recommend you to other people. If you've been taught that bad attitude are a testament of an artist's worth you are better suited in the old models of marketing. - But if you think being a professional is your card for success, then you're at the right place.

*5) You're willing to learn: Notice we have not said anything about talent yet, and you may wonder "how can you look for artists and not ask for talent first?" lol. Well, here's the deal: Singers at Heart believe that anyone can sing and develop their talent - even our Teaching Lessons are based on that premise. It would be then contradictory to discriminate against artists who are still learning. As long as we sense from you a burning desire to learn and get better we'll consider you. Age, gender, looks and race do not matter. But we have a prerequisite: you must be open to us telling you the truth about what you need to do get there!! cause we're not about maintaining illusions. If you think you don't have any progress to make, then majors might be a better place for you to be at. - But if you believe you have more to learn and want to build your own career from the ground up, then you're definitively at the right place. Sign with us!
